I have been able to use this blend for myself several times for a queasy stomach. Though the smell is not my favorite (this is where I have to tell you not all oils smell fantastic — they are medicinal too) I cannot deny the help it has given me, either to stop vomiting or prevent the vomit and the pre-vomit belch. ewwww. I know. sorry.

It’s good to have on hand. A no-brainer to reach for when your tummy just doesn’t feel quite right.

My Testimony!

This AMAZING oil jumped back on my radar because of the relief it gave me a few nights ago from an awful sore throat. Every time I swallowed it felt as if my ears were going to burn off my head. I took out my reference guide ( if you don’t have one you MUST get one, so much better than guessing ) and one of the top suggestion for a severe sore throat was oregano. I applied it topically to my throat, behind my ears and along my jaw. I woke the next morning not sure what to expect. Well, I could barely feel it! It felt a little sore like after a day you shout too much. I continued to apply the oils during the day and the next evening. I was on the mend! And much faster than I anticipated! I was very grateful!

Personal Testimonies:

1. I have a friend (who will remain unnamed for reasons that will become clear), who had a deep cystic acne welt on the inside of the leg that had been causing problems for several weeks, that was red, sore, and inflamed. But, after applying oregano two nights in a row the inflammation went down, soreness was gone, and the cyst disappeared.

2. I also have a family member who suffered for a long time from planters warts on the bottoms of the feet. Applied oregano for two months ( 7 days – 2 times a day, 3 days off — on days off applied vitamin E oil ). They dried up and went away and have not come back! Two years later, still wart free!

So many reasons to use and love this oil. It is very strong so I would advise you have a dilution oil close by in case you are sensitive. Coconut oil works or V-6 (from Young Living).

Essential Oils for Crossfit pt.1

Because my blog name isn’t obvious enough. I am a crossfit mom. Am I an elite athlete completing all workouts RX (as perscribed) and competing in the Crossfit Games? Not yet (I dream big). I am working towards an unassisted pull-up and to accomplish double-unders (swinging rope around twice while jumping once) strung together, two in a row would be nice. =D I am making progress. That’s what makes a crossfitter. Dedication, hard work, doing YOUR best everyday.

When I am able to complete a work-out RX I am very excited and proud of my ability! But no matter if I RX or scale the WOD (workout of the day), when I finish/get home and the soreness sets in I bring out my essential oils to help speed up recovery. Cause you know I’m going back for more tomorrow. =)

This past week I (along with my awesome & supportive team) sponsored an event at my Crossfit gym. We hired a Certified Massage Therapist to come and administer the “Raindrop Technique” to 10 Crossfit athletes. I have had this “technique” applied myself several times and the results are wonderful.

A personal testimony of my own.

 

One evening after a an especially great WOD of box jumps and wall balls, hubby & my legs were feeling pretty wobbly as we walked down the stairs to our apartment.  I knew we could use a little oily help so I applied:

Aroma Siez: Relaxes muscle, Improves circulation, reduces inflammation, releases tension

Copaiba: Reduces inflammation, provides pain relief, magnifies the properties in other oils, amplifying their effect.

Ten minutes after this application we were moving around much easier. We still felt a bit sore. But we could climb up and down the stair without wincing at every step! =D

Think Twice About Pumpkin Spice

Do you know what’s in your favorite Starbucks Pumpkin spice latte? I have to tell you I am a little heartbroken every time I discover that fake chemicals are in some of my favorite things. Let’s think twice about pumpkin spice.

Just so you know this is not all doom and gloom I have a VERY happy alternative (that can be enjoyed all year long). Read on!

Here’s is a breakdown of what’s in the “Pumpkin Spice Latte”. Thanks to Food Babe (seriously, amazing woman, follow her!)

Now for the happy part! I have a great way to still get the flavor and yumminess of a Pumpkin Spice Latte, in Organic Essential Oils ( Young Living only).

I make tea or coffee and then add:

1-2 Drops Clove

1-2 Drops Nutmeg

2-3 Drops Cinnamon Bark

2-3 Drop Orange

Last but not least for a creamy rich finish I add: 1tsp-1Tbsp Trader Joe’s Coconut Cream ( AMAZING).

Today I want to share some information about one Essential oil blend! Thieves! Thieves is a blend of: clove, lemon, rosemary, cinnamon bark, and Eucalyptus radiata.

It is a blend inspired by the legend of four 15th-century thieves who formulated a similar aromatic blend to protect themselves while robbing dead and dying victims of the plague.

It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. I LOVE having this blend in my home all the time.

This blend is so great at disinfecting and cleaning that Young Living has a whole line of cleaning supplies from this one blend. But today I am only going to share a little more information on one of the Thieves products. That is, the Thieves waterless hand purifier. For years I have been buying hand sanitizers from, well, wherever it was convenient.  But since trying to remove toxins and chemicals from my home and daily life I’ve been giving everything a closer look. So when I went to read a label for the ingredients in my generic brand hand sanitizer and I found an explanation that read ” a powerful germ-killing formula…” I got to wonder what was in that “formula” .

From there my education on hand sanitizers began and I learned about a chemical called triclosan and what it means to use many anti-bacterial products on the market:

  • Most hand-sanitizers contain Triclosan, a toxic pesticide that has been shown to alter hormone regulation in animals and to increase allergies in children.
  • Anti-bacterial soaps and hand-sanitizers kill more than just the bad bacteria. When we think of the word “bacteria” we think of a bad thing. But, there is good bacteria (think pro-biotics) and harmful bacteria (think pathogen). Hand-sanitizers aren’t selective – they destroy all of it (99.99%, it has always sounded like a good thing, right?), but in the process they are hindering our own immune system

4 Simple Ways to Start Healthy Habits

As I read articles, research and scroll through blogs it is overwhelming.  There are so many tips, tricks, plans, guidelines, toxins to avoid, dos, dont’s in the health world. Sometimes all this information throws me into a paralyzed state so that I am unable to make a change or improvement. For years it did. I couldn’t imagine how or even where to begin. But I discovered little things that changed me and I want to share them with you.

Here are 4 small ways that start you toward making healthy choices without being overwhelming.

1. A Positive Mind: Practice, this is a really simple way to lower stress and keep everything in perspective. Be patient with yourself. Embrace the process of change in your head first.

2. Goals: Set small attainable goals. Remember it takes years to earn degrees. If you are just starting to make an effort to live a healthy lifestyle it doesn’t happen overnight. Start new habits and practice till they are second nature(i.e. more veggies, more physical exertion, less fast food).

3. Community: Build new friendships with others who will inspire and support you in making healthy living your way of life (i.e. bike/hike together, swap recipes).

4. New Activities: As kids our parents usually made us eat a food we didn’t like at least a few times. Being an adult we now have the privilege (or curse) of deciding without trying. But there is a joy and freedom in exploring. New activities can be hard and are usually out of our comfort zone. But exhilarating and gives a fresh and invigorated dose of self esteem ( run a little faster, try a different exercise class, cook new veggies, lift a little more, play a new sport, play on the playground with your kids – play tag again).

You don’t need to do these all at once. Choose one. This week practice one. Next week add another until everyday you do little things that have become habits to achieve bigger goals.

We can do it!

Bedtime Stories

Babies crave routine (most adults do too). Routines help them feel safe, secure and relaxed. Our ideal bedtime goes something like this: At 7:30ish PM, wash up, essential oil up, put on pajamas, sing (sometimes rock), bless & say goodnight.

We have nights where all goes wrong. Bedtime is late. Routine is not prioritized. Baby is overtired. Which equals many cries, protests and confusion (for everyone).

We have peaceful & timely nights. Where routine goes smoothly and we do everything that helps baby prepare for nighttime sleep. Then we listen in awe of the silence.

Though most nights are a mix. We have found that the common factor in the routine for bedtime success seems to be this little essential oil duo:

P.S. I put a drop of lavender on baby’s feet before a doctor appointment and he was able to happily hang out in his carseat for the duration of the appointment!

P.P.S. — I like this routine for better sleep too, for myself I add Cedarwood (two drops to the back of my head) which is high in sesquiterpenes – a chemical constituent in EO that increases the amount of oxygen to the pineal (responsible for releasing melatonin)  & pituitary gland (controls most of our hormone function). Sending the signal for more endorphins to be secreted, cleanses neurotransmitters and increases antibodies!

A Doctor Appointment

Guess where I went on this lovely Monday!

I don’t know about you but I strongly dislike doctor appointments. Talk about stress. Especially with a little one in tow, paperwork to fill out and fun topics to discuss.

Well, after Tubby got in the dog water and did a double duty in his diaper right before we left I rushed out the door without my essential oils. . By the time I was at my appointment in the middle of the paperwork and medical fun….I was so stressed (full on headache and injury pain causing me to sweat in the very air conditioned almost chilly exam room) and after the two hour appointment I nearly had a meltdown.

As soon as I got home I immediately applied: Stress Away — LOVE this blend, it works so well and it smells heavenly. I had instant relief and was able to avoid taking any medication for my headache or my pain and felt my anxiety begin to dissipate.

Setting Up This Place

Funny story. So I’ve been clicking around all evening trying to figure out wordpress & my right forearm started to hurt like a special case of tendinitis. So I got up and put a few drops of Cypress, Wintergreen & Copaiba. Within 5 minutes I felt much better.

So let me tell you why I grabbed the oils I did!

Copaiba – Enhances the use of other oils & soothes physical pain

Cypress – encourages blood circulation & relaxes muscles

Wintergreen – contains methyl salicylate – an active ingredient beneficial for soothing tense & sore muscles
